Accessories: Liners
Liners are an easy way to deal with the contents of your babies nappy. You don't have to use a liner but it may help by protecting the nappy from staining and in some cases provide a stay dry layer next to your babies skin. Liners are placed inside your child's nappy as the inner layer next to your baby. Some nappies have liners already stitched in.
Bio-degradable, flushable liners are very convenient and easy to use. You usually buy these on rolls, and they are fairly inexpensive. Some will allow you to wash them along with your nappies and reuse them a few times where others break down much faster.
Fleece liners are more eco friendly as they are completely re usable. They come in different sizes and all sorts of patterns. The main advantage to a fleece liner is that they allow all the liquid to pass through to the absorbent nappy, and as they can not absorb wetness themselves, they provide a stay dry layer next to your babies' skin. They aren't sticky either so when your baby gets a bit older solids just drop off into the loo!
Silk liners are also available, although not very common. These are made from raw silk which has a rougher texture than the silk we think on clothing. They are a good treatment for nappy rash and help the healing process although your baby should not be suffering from ongoing nappy rash due to your real nappies so it would be worth trying to find out what the cause is i.e. teething, diet or another.
